I haven't forgotten that this tribe exists. I actually received a friendly email from one of the fine people here and decided to login, despaminate the place and post a message.

Lets make this tribe an active one once again!

Here's a question for you. Has the social networking bug bitten you yet and if so, are you on myspace/facebook/mashable?

Feel free to post links to your profiles here.

Your God...

*This post is partially inspired by a soul-sister, “Em” and brought to life by a discussion in the Empaths Tribe, at www.Tribe.net.

It seems that more often than not, people are ready to go up in arms over organized religion. The targets are usually some or all of the religions that come from Abraham (Islam, Christianity -pick your path there- and Judaism). The temperatures run high even when the topic of conversation isn’t even about religion, someone on the posting group, in the conversation will inevitably display their anger and draw the sword of opinion.

Undoubtedly we live in a country that has a large Christian contingent of believers, in some form or another. We have prominent men and woman, in politics, on television, radio and print, displaying their faith with a slant onto their political, social or personal agenda. Their lives, cast in the light of their God, become easy targets to blame, denounce, raise up and polarize around, changing the view of a religious path from what it is in truth. Is the belief system at fault or the individual who has twisted that system to suit their own goals?

Every religion and spiritual path has its vices and pitfalls. There is no perfect course when you really think about it because they are defined and designed by human beings and we, by natural default, have a host of beautiful… well… “faults”! Therefore none of these religions can be a perfected path, unless of course you believe in the beauty of flaws, a design in life that allows for mistakes, trouble and obstacles to learn and grow from.

You can get your back up, find yourself affronted, insulted or even angry but this is precisely my point that I am trying to make, or at least part of the point. Your anger does not make the world a better place. Your insistence that you have the right of way, does not make it easier for others to live in the world. Your ego-centric stubbornness to prove you are right does not create a better world.

For well over 2,000 years human being have used religion as a method to control, to wage war, to demonize others and to collect power over people, cities and countries. People have used religious egomania to provide false evidence for wars, genocide, slavery and a host of “isms” from racism to sexism. At some point, we a as a race have to say, “This must stop.”

I posted this all to my blog:

A new Webhost for Blogger

Fateback is down at the moment, and has been over a dozen times since last November.

I want to move my blog to a more reliable host. Blog*Spot is out; it's a pain to configure, and word validation may cut down on spammers but it also slows down my updates. I have a za.net address, but don't know how to configure it right (I'm guessing it has to redirect to somewhere).

Can any of you recommend a good host?

Interested in developing Webloggers.org and weblogging.org

I own http://www.Webloggers.org and http://www.Weblogging.org ~ and I'm interested in developing these.

I own a web shop with about 18 people but we're full up with work. This would be a 'pet project' and even I have precious little time to devote. Finishing my book on Internet marketing ~ the next may be about Social Networking.

Any and all ideas are welcome. I can put some infrastructure development in place on the sites when convinced of a direction and goals.

The sites get about 100 visitors a month between them though they are only parked with SEDO. Serious offers for purchase will be entertained.

Regards,
Keith

greetings:

i've had a blog for a while now. It's hosted on blogger and I use one of their pre-made templates. I do most of my posting and customizing on a mac. I use firefox as a browser and will check the blog on IE occasionally. Today, I happened to be sitting at a PC with windows xp and my "sidebar" was completely shifted below. I wrote a post and asked if anyone else was seeing that. Apparently it's only the IE users. Any suggestions?
differences amongst blog providers

I'm looking for a blog provider so i can start. Ive heard good things about moveable type and thinkpad. I have tried blogger.com but I want to be able to customize it more (without have to get too involved with code). i would like something that is easy to set up but has the flexiblity to customize later if needed. i also like the idea of being able to limit access to choosen blog entries. what are the major difference between the providers and what do people recommend? (paid and unpaid.)
thanks!

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2004/dec04/12-01MSNWave10PR.asp
MSN: The MSN network of Internet services today introduced updates to its free communication services to make e-mail, instant messaging and online sharing easier and more personal for consumers. [cut] MSN Spaces enable consumers to easily display their pictures via a photo album slide show.

Looks like a small step up from Blogger and Typepad.
Congrats to Dare Obasanjo and team.
Dave Winer is blogging up a storm on the new MSN Spaces blogging service.
MSN Spaces' RSS is extremely clean, which I would expect to be the case w/ Dare involved.
MSN Spaces' usability is horrible. I have to signout and back in when I want to edit the blog.
All the themes are hard on the eyes.

Overall Review: This is a stepping stone compared to Wallop. I wonder how MSN Spaces and Wallop will work together.

createdigitalmusic.com / Mambo

My digital music blog, which thanks to gizmodo is getting lots of traffic this week:

http://www.createdigitalmusic.com

Let me know what you think! My next phase is going back and fixing various technical issues (like some problems with the RSS feed), which brings me to my question:

Anyone out there using Mambo? Found an empty tribe here:

http://india.tribe.net/tribe/servlet/template/pub,TribeCard.vm?tribeid=8a2a9a39-b041-4eec-ad62-297389b89201&

But curious to know your thoughts, or perhaps you even know of a Mambo-powered site you love.

Yes, it's more of a CMS than a blogging app, but it's what I need and I know what I've created is something people think of a blog. (Splitting hairs, I say!)

Housekeeping matters @ weblogs.tribe.net

Just a quick note from your friendly neighbourhood weblogs.tribe moderator. Even though I don't regularly post in here, I still monitor this tribe on a regular basis.

After receiving an email from a member of this tribe regarding a matter that could've been resolved by directly communicating with the other party involved and not taking everything that was said on the Internet to heart, I've decided to make the following amendments.

If you're going to "pimp your blog" or promote your blog, make sure it's an actual weblog/journal. I've had people post links to home-made web news portals. Weblogs.tribe.net is NOT a portals tribe. It's about weblogs and online journals.

For a detailed explanation of what a weblog is, hop over to the following link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weblog. For a detailed explanation of what a portal is, yet again, do the same as above - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_portal

Weblogs.tribe.net is not a place for squabbling or spam. If you want to act like a git, find another tribe to do so in. I really don't want to lockdown this tribe or kick people out because you all sound like a fairly civilised bunch.

Anything deemed to be squabbling will be deleted. Weblogs.tribe.net is about fun and that's the way I'd like it to stay for all of our members.

If you wish to discuss any of the amendments outlined here, send me a private message and I will deal with it accordingly. Replies made to this post will be ignored.

Play nice, have fun and happy holiday season to all of you.

Your friendly neighbourhood weblogs.tribe moderator,

Ok, so I'm a fairly new blogger and have opted, for the time being, to blog on blogger and use their templates. That said, I've been using flickr (www.flickr.com) to host my images and they are showing up really tiny. That also depends on the original image, I know.

My question is: is there another way I can get images on my blog?

Thanks in advance for your help!
http://fourteensquarefeet.com
straight to the blog>
the site is hosted by living dot which provides movable type

Questions about trackback and newsletter subscriptions on blogs

Hi

I'm new to this tribe and recently set up www.maxblumberg.com on typepad.

I have two questions and wonder whether anyone here might be able to point me in the right direction please:

1. How do I use trackback when I reference someone else's blog? I mean I can see that they have a trackback URL, but I am not sure where to put it in my blog.

2. I publish a bi-monthly newsletter to my blog readers. Currently, I use ConstantContact to collect subscribers' email addresses on my blog, but do not use their facility to actually send my newsletter (I just use regular email). Since this costs $15/month, I wondered if there was a more cost-effective means of collecting subscribers' email addresses?

Thanks

Max

What is Moblogging?

Dave Winer: Moblogging is any activity that occurs away from your normal blog-writing place whose purpose is to create content for your blog.

http://archive.scripting.com/2004/09/19#whatIsMoblogging

I would define Moblogging as mobile blogging, that is, blogging from a mobile device. Mobile devices include PDAs, RIMs, J2MEs, Smartphones, Palms, cell phones w/ digital cameras and digital cameras and camcorders. Under Dave's definition, does writing a blog entry from an Internet Cafe qualify as moblogging? How about buying a magazine that you need for research on a blog entry you have on the back of your mind? I think Dave's definition incorrectly includes such blogging activities and I would exclude them from any definition of moblogging.

Thoughts?

Blogging tools and servers

Where do you house your blog?

For example, do you have your blog hosted on severs like blogspot or is it set up on personal server space?

If you are not on a blog-dedicated server, what type of software do you use to post your blog?

Reason: I first started blogging in May at Blogspot using Blogger software. That was an EXCELLENT way to start - free, nearly dummy proof, nice templates!
However, this week I moved to my own server space and domain and will be using WordPress software. It is more complicated but my options have multiplied greatly.

A busy few months in the blogosphere

First post for the new year and I know it's two months late (oops!)

The blogosphere is buzzing with new developments and the two that stand out at the moment seem to be Orkut and the imminent release of Movable Type 3.0.

I pose the following questions to you. Are you a member of Orkut (hehehe, got an invite?...hehehe) and for all the people that use Movable Type, will you be signing up to alpha test MT 3.0?

Rate and Recommend Blogware

I am not a blogger(yet) but am interested in becoming one. I need to know where to look for software/freeware/shareware that will enable me to set up a good blog. I know there are several packages out there, but do not know what they are or their advantages and disadvantages over one another. Where should I look, what should I look for, and why? My first concern will be functionality to enable about a dozen close friends to stay in touch with each other making posts related to a certain topic we all share a common interest in.

I came here for that, to set up a tribe for this purpose, but wonder if a blog might not be a better idea?

All help appreciated.

I just want to wish all of the Weblogs Tribesters a very Happy Holiday Season and hope that 2004 is a great year ahead for everyone.

Thanks for helping this Tribe grow from an initial 3 members to a whopping 117 members. If you know anyone who is a blogger or keeps an online journal, let them know about this Tribe and help us become bigger and better in 2004.

Here's hoping that we can reach the 200 member mark in February!

Happy holidays :o)

Blogshares

Out of curiosity, is anyone here participating in the fantasy blog share market games called Blogshares? If not, you can basically list your weblog or journal over on the Blogshares site and then watch as people buy and sell stock in yours and other peoples blogs and journals.

It's quite a lot of fun and if you'd like an example of what I'm talking about, here's a listing for my site - http://www.blogshares.com/blogs.php?blog=http://www.deconstruct.me.uk&user=1272

You can find the Blogshares site over at: http://www.blogshares.com

It's quite fun seeing how high some of the weblog share prices can soar to. Just look out when they crash. :o)

Oops! It seems that I forgot all about this wonderful little community! The member-base has certainly grown since I last ventured in here for a look.

Hello to all the new members and people who've ventured in here from the land of Livejournal and other places!

Hopefully in the next few weeks, we'll have some actual discussion happening in here :o)

I'm a little curious as to what everyone thinks of moblogging? I had a little wander around http://www.textamerica.com and found some rather fascinating little moblogs.

If you have a moblog, post the url in here as I'd love to check it out!
