*This post is partially inspired by a soul-sister, “Em” and brought to life by a discussion in the Empaths Tribe, at www.Tribe.net.

It seems that more often than not, people are ready to go up in arms over organized religion. The targets are usually some or all of the religions that come from Abraham (Islam, Christianity -pick your path there- and Judaism). The temperatures run high even when the topic of conversation isn’t even about religion, someone on the posting group, in the conversation will inevitably display their anger and draw the sword of opinion.

Undoubtedly we live in a country that has a large Christian contingent of believers, in some form or another. We have prominent men and woman, in politics, on television, radio and print, displaying their faith with a slant onto their political, social or personal agenda. Their lives, cast in the light of their God, become easy targets to blame, denounce, raise up and polarize around, changing the view of a religious path from what it is in truth. Is the belief system at fault or the individual who has twisted that system to suit their own goals?

Every religion and spiritual path has its vices and pitfalls. There is no perfect course when you really think about it because they are defined and designed by human beings and we, by natural default, have a host of beautiful… well… “faults”! Therefore none of these religions can be a perfected path, unless of course you believe in the beauty of flaws, a design in life that allows for mistakes, trouble and obstacles to learn and grow from.

You can get your back up, find yourself affronted, insulted or even angry but this is precisely my point that I am trying to make, or at least part of the point. Your anger does not make the world a better place. Your insistence that you have the right of way, does not make it easier for others to live in the world. Your ego-centric stubbornness to prove you are right does not create a better world.

For well over 2,000 years human being have used religion as a method to control, to wage war, to demonize others and to collect power over people, cities and countries. People have used religious egomania to provide false evidence for wars, genocide, slavery and a host of “isms” from racism to sexism. At some point, we a as a race have to say, “This must stop.”
I have tried blogger.com but I want to be able to customize it more (without have to get too involved with code). i would like something that is easy to set up but has the flexiblity to customize later if needed. i also like the idea of being able to limit access to choosen blog entries. what are the major difference between the providers and what do people recommend? (paid and unpaid.)
MSN: The MSN network of Internet services today introduced updates to its free communication services to make e-mail, instant messaging and online sharing easier and more personal for consumers. [cut] MSN Spaces enable consumers to easily display their pictures via a photo album slide show.
Looks like a small step up from Blogger and Typepad.
Congrats to Dare Obasanjo and team.
Dave Winer is blogging up a storm on the new MSN Spaces blogging service.
MSN Spaces' RSS is extremely clean, which I would expect to be the case w/ Dare involved.
MSN Spaces' usability is horrible. I have to signout and back in when I want to edit the blog.
All the themes are hard on the eyes.
Overall Review: This is a stepping stone compared to Wallop. I wonder how MSN Spaces and Wallop will work together.

Yes, it's more of a CMS than a blogging app, but it's what I need and I know what I've created is something people think of a blog. (Splitting hairs, I say!)

After receiving an email from a member of this tribe regarding a matter that could've been resolved by directly communicating with the other party involved and not taking everything that was said on the Internet to heart, I've decided to make the following amendments.

If you're going to "pimp your blog" or promote your blog, make sure it's an actual weblog/journal. I've had people post links to home-made web news portals. Weblogs.tribe.net is NOT a portals tribe. It's about weblogs and online journals.

For a detailed explanation of what a weblog is, hop over to the following link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weblog. For a detailed explanation of what a portal is, yet again, do the same as above - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_portal

Weblogs.tribe.net is not a place for squabbling or spam. If you want to act like a git, find another tribe to do so in. I really don't want to lockdown this tribe or kick people out because you all sound like a fairly civilised bunch.

Anything deemed to be squabbling will be deleted. Weblogs.tribe.net is about fun and that's the way I'd like it to stay for all of our members.

If you wish to discuss any of the amendments outlined here, send me a private message and I will deal with it accordingly. Replies made to this post will be ignored.

I have two questions and wonder whether anyone here might be able to point me in the right direction please:

1. How do I use trackback when I reference someone else's blog? I mean I can see that they have a trackback URL, but I am not sure where to put it in my blog.

2. I publish a bi-monthly newsletter to my blog readers. Currently, I use ConstantContact to collect subscribers' email addresses on my blog, but do not use their facility to actually send my newsletter (I just use regular email). Since this costs $15/month, I wondered if there was a more cost-effective means of collecting subscribers' email addresses?

Thanks

http://archive.scripting.com/2004/09/19#whatIsMoblogging

I would define Moblogging as mobile blogging, that is, blogging from a mobile device. Mobile devices include PDAs, RIMs, J2MEs, Smartphones, Palms, cell phones w/ digital cameras and digital cameras and camcorders. Under Dave's definition, does writing a blog entry from an Internet Cafe qualify as moblogging? How about buying a magazine that you need for research on a blog entry you have on the back of your mind? I think Dave's definition incorrectly includes such blogging activities and I would exclude them from any definition of moblogging.
